ABOUT THE AUTHOR

He was born on February 8th, 1864 in Košice. He was a significant fine-artist and landscapist, who was a pupil of the Košice´s fine-artist Vojtech Klimkovič. In the year 1883 he began studying at the School for the education of teachers of drawing in Budapest. In the yrs. 1889-1895 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague with the Czech painter and graphic artist Julius Mařák. His work is largely realistic with some elements of romanticism. In 1895, he became a member of the Prague’s association Mánes, he was a founding member of Nemzeti Salon in Budapest. He died on June 28th, 1937 in Košice.

ON CREATION

The Ľudovít Čordák´s creation was in the early days influenced by the paintings of Julius Mařák, with whom he had worked for some time. These works were characteristic by verticality, space closing and views into the inside. In 90s years of the 19th century he preferred depicting of the landscape in the reduced lighting, landscapes in the mist, during nightfall, mostly in earthy shades. After returning from Prague, he settled permanently in Košice. He absolutely changed the manuscript; he began to display the East-Slovakian landscape with open composition, shiny with the Sun, oversaturated with air. He approached the principles of Impressionism and Luminism.
