ON THE WORK

Peter Ančič´swork reflects the diversity of the genres: there are complete some socio-critical cycles in staged portrait series Generation 89, Husák´s Generation, or Couples, where he redefines in still portraits the "lost" generation at the borderline between socialism and capitalism, and their position in a new society. Another range of his work is the landscape, where, e.g. in the cycle Night Landscape, the author depicts the desolateness of crowded housing estates in the context of the picture report about the status of Slovak towns, where the post-revolutionary freedom has gradually enabled the resettlement of mainly middle class of the population. He has stated to this project: "Housing estates with architecture of concrete multi-storey blocks of houses densely concentrated in the suburbs represented the ideal of some urban planning solution of cities during communism. An accompanying feature of such a housing solution was the gradual loss of identification with the environment and the estrangement of the inhabitants of these settlements to each other."
