WEB OF ART

WEB OF ART

The Gallery of Spiš Artists has joined to the galleries that publish works from their collections on the Web of Art site. We have contributed  with almost 2000 works of various art types (paintings, drawings, graphics, photographs, sculptures), digitized since 2014 as a part of the Digital Gallery project. On the Web of Art, visitors can search and sort works by category (author, genre, technology, dating) and explore their details or artistic handwriting using zoom function. Digital reproductions of copyrighted works can be downloaded in high resolution and used without any restrictions for private and commercial purposes.

Together, there are more than 100 000 works from the collections of 8 Slovak galleries and 6600 profiles of visual artists. The collections of the individual galleries accessible in one place provide a more complete view of the work of the individual authors, showing the diversity of motives and artistic expressions. The collections are also an attractive way of bringing artworks from the collections of art galleries on the Web - the first collection from the Gallery of Spiš Artists is a collection of works from the permanent exhibition dedicated to the life and work of Jozef Hanula.

The collections of the Spiš Gallery of Artists consist of the following main collectors:

  1. creation of artists of the 19th - 20th century(Ľudovít Čordák, Ladislav Mednyánszky, Jozef Hanula, Ferdinand Katona, Andor Borúth, Eugen Szepesi-Kuszka, Ján Polom, Oľga Krýslová, Jana Kiselová-Siteková, Ján Šimo-Svrček, František Guldan, Mikuláš Kravjanský, Peter Pollág, Peter Župník, Juraj Škatulár...)
  2. creation of regional Spiš artists (Ladislav Kacvinský, Zdeněk Jeřábek, Anna Fedáková, Štefan Hudzík, Imrich Svitana, Štefan Kovaľ, Otto Korkoš, Marián Hennel, Viliam Pirchala, Emil Sedlák, Eva Melkovičová, Tibor Gurin, Ján Polom, Eva Končeková...)
  3. creation of contemporary young East Slovakian artists (Amalka Ľudmila Valenčíková, Katarína Balúnová, Viktória Šoltisová, Kamil Kozub, Róbert Kočan, Monika Stacho, Juraj Oravec, Milan Hnat, Tomáš Cetera, Jana Huljaková, Vlado Eliáš, Zuzana Mantel...).

Many of these authors appear on the Web of Art for the first time - the collections of the Gallery of Spiš Artists are therefore a rare asset. The selection of works covers the period from the end of the 19th century to the present.

The Web of Art is managed by the Slovak National Gallery, its development is carried out by lab.SNG - a platform that explores the possibilities of using digital technologies in gallery and museum practice. Data and digital reproductions on the Web of Art are downloaded and regularly updated from the CEDVU (Central Register of Fine Art Works) system, where they are entered by the employees of individual galleries.

The national project Digital Gallery, in which the works were digitized, ended in November 2015 and was one of the national projects of the Operational Program Informatization of Society, priority axis Development of Memory and Fund Institutions and Restoration of their National Infrastructure, financed from the EU resources. However, the digitization in the galleries continues - in the Gallery of Spiš Artists, some parts of the collections were digitized also in April 2017
