A new format of some "quarantine" communication brings information, pro-links and through-clicks to our videos, photo galleries about our collection, artists, exhibitions, selected works, and you can even create at home - we bring various online workshops "live" with steps and instructions not just for kids. Our online programmes have no time limits: you can find them with a date of "start" and an end date – 30/06/2020 – is an optimistic prospect for us to return to normal life: in this way you can return to your favourite programme on an ongoing basis.

 

OnLine Gallery - Quarantine News of the Gallery of Spiš Artists

The Covid-era brings some new challenges – even during the closure of our Gallery premises for physical visitors, the Gallery of Spiš Artists is flexibly moving into a virtual space, corresponding to the demands of this century and redefining the meaning of the activities of “stone” institutions to online mode. Instead of the planned exhibition projects and accompanying programmes, which due to the extraordinary situation were scheduled at the end of the calendar year, it is time to review the quality and chronologically archived data and make them available on the Gallery website as well as on active social networks: under the name “Gallery of Spiš Artists” we operate on FB /profile and funpage, Instagram and YouTube. In addition to the recycling of already stored data, we are also preparing our own photo and video stories, resulting in an interactive project called OnLine Gallery launched on April 1st. New creative concept, elaborated by the Gallery staff – Director of the Gallery Mgr. Lucia Benická and graphic designer Mgr. Art. Ivana Babejová, ArtD., engages all employees – from technical support and application of data, through professional processing, backup, dramaturgy, selection and re-evaluation of image and video materials. The OnLine Gallery, updated several times a week, offers virtual tours of Gallery premises, instructional videos for art workshops, educational tasks and competitions for families with children, information and visual documentation for exhibitions and authors, and much more.

 

Mgr. Lucia Benická, Director of the Gallery and author adds: “I have built the concept of the On Line Gallery on the bearing pillars of Gallery activities, including information on operational news. A carrier image-making parodies the structure of the Corona-virus, and individual pictograms are applied to a particular kind of the (not only) on-line presentations. The scope of the contributions will thus make it possible to combine several pictograms, and thus also some activities, e.g. current exhibition + collection + top work + catalogue, etc. The preparation of the contributions is based on the updating of materials on social networks as well as on other online projects, in which the Gallery of Spiš Artists has been actively involved since 2015. In addition to the virtual overlap of our activities and other key professional tasks related to the upcoming projects in the period of post-Covid, the operation of the Gallery in both buildings has not stopped – April also brings other challenges for adjustments in the depositories, as well as maintenance and modernization of the premises, while already after Easter we will reconstruct a new elevator that connects three floors of one building and is the main console also for wheelchair visitors."

 

The “Quarantine” OnLine Gallery is also based on two externally implemented virtual projects: Google Art and Web of Art. The Gallery of Spiš Artists was among the first memory institutions in Slovakia to join the Google Art Project in 2015 with a team of British experts: the aim was a virtual sight-seeing of all Gallery exhibition premises. The project allows various applications, such as at the Google-map: while the visitor is navigated through the city and is close to the Gallery, there is launched a street-view technology with a click – this opens the door to the Gallery and the visitor enters objects. The click-through is on our website in two sub-folders – “About us” and “Visit”. The Gallery of Spiš Artists is also one of the few galleries, the collection of which is completely digitized by December 31st, 2019 – even in this period it is gradually being professionally processed. Part of the “quarantine” virtual presentation is also Web of Art (webumenia.sk), where we present a large part of the collection, including a description of permanent exposures, e.g. permanent exhibition Jozef Hanula.
